Dr. Norman Walter is a board-certified hematologist, oncologist, and internist with over two decades of clinical and academic experience in cancer care.
He currently serves as Head of the Department of Hematology, Oncology, and Immunology at Helios Klinikum Berlin-Buch — a position he has held since 2019, following a progression through senior physician, managing physician, and chief physician roles at the same institution dating back to 2009.
Earlier in his career he trained and consulted at Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin, one of Europe’s largest university hospital systems, over a period of thirteen years.
His academic formation began at Ulm University, where he completed his medical training and received board certifications in internal medicine, hematology and oncology, and palliative medicine.
He has since delivered more than ten talks at national and international scientific congresses and published over twenty peer-reviewed papers in oncology, with a sustained focus on cellular immunotherapies, metabolic cancer therapies, and personalized medicine.
He is also chairperson of the scientific and medical council of the Lebenshaus Foundation, where he contributes to evidence-based standards for the care of patients with serious hematologic and oncologic diseases.
Beyond clinical medicine, his background includes management consulting roles with McKinsey & Company and Dr. Becker Klinikgesellschaft — experience that informs a broader view of how research translates, or fails to translate, into patient care at scale.
His research interests align directly with the questions DCA Guide addresses: how cancer cell metabolism can be targeted therapeutically, why off-patent compounds are systematically underinvestigated, and what rigorous but open-minded clinical thinking looks like in practice.
As medical reviewer for DCAGuide.org, he evaluates content for scientific accuracy, clinical relevance, and appropriate framing — ensuring that complex topics are presented with honest discussion of evidence, limitations, and risk.
